I have to smile extra big to show my not-too-pretty, uneven teeth to Lowenberg, Lituchy and their technician Jason Kim. They're all staring inside my mouth, and I feel like I've been caught with my pants down wearing yesterday's frayed underwear.

Indicating the teeth that book-end the two front teeth, Lituchy says, "Over one of your lateral teeth, your gum line is lower. Well, we can raise the gum line with a laser. Your two front teeth are very squared and masculine—you want to make them more rounded and feminine, more curvy. Right now, your laterals are almost longer than your fronts—the front two should be longest, and the lats flanking them should be shorter. And you also don't have much translucency: We want to go for a soft white."

Of course, I tell them I want the whitest teeth available—teeth the color of a virgin's wedding dress or Martha Stewart's walls. Hard, bright white.

But, Lituchy argues, "Your teeth can be too white. We try to scare people away from going too white. You should look like you were born with your teeth. And you don't want them making your skin tone look dull."
