When the
A-list need their teeth improved, they head for the New York surgery of
Doctors Lowenberg and Lituchy. Susanna Cohen joins their latest patient,
Jodie Kidd, as her smile is radically transformed.
Beauty
has a new obsession. And, not surprisingly, it took root in America. No
longer are our Stateside sisters content with line-free skin and slimmer
hips - their teeth must be perfect too. Flick through any fashion magazine
and you'll see gnasher-flashing models and celebrities flaunting their
pearly white, mega-watt smiles.
The two main protagonists in this molar revolution are
New York's Dr. Marc Lowenberg and Dr. Gregg Lituchy, whom I get to meet
(with my mouth clamped firmly shut) when I accompany supermodel Jodie
Kidd to their offices overlooking Central Park. Having enjoyed a successful
career on the catwalk (without once cracking a smile in front of the camera),
Ms Kidd is now on the threshold of a TV and film career and has decided
that something needs to be done about her smile.
These two famous doctors carry out anything from veneers (from around
1,200 euros per tooth) laminates and lifts, to bonding, bleaching and
implants. None of it is cheap or pain free, but the (soon to be more)
beautiful, rich and famous flock in droves for a dose of the doctors'
expertise and considerable charm.
